The project workshops in the program Promotion and Education are primarily dedicated to young authors in domain of literature creation and to translators as well. Young Montenegrin production during few last years is gaining different contours, representative in its need to communicate with relevant creative circle of authors that write in South-Slavic languages. Again, on the other hand, the promotion of Montenegrin creation and specific values without being translated into the most important world's languages, and a small amount of translated foreign literature also, make broad communication and creation of professional criteria impossible.

Up till now issues of our magazine ARS promoted young translators in Montenegro, especially creations in English language speaking area, and translators outside Montenegro that work in bigger, more relevant and aware space of language translating communication. The OKF programs will assume new standards in domain of creative writing and translating that are comparable with the standards in the region of South-Slavic languages and speaking area of English, French and Italian language.
The invitation for new translations, authors' texts, and cooperation on the OKF editions is opened.


19. - 21. july 2002. Workshop of literal translating from english

A three-day workshop on the subject of translating literature was organized by Open Cultural Forum and held in Cetinje, from July 9 to 11.
The workshop was an interactive one, attended by translators from English who work as contributors for literary magazine "Ars" and other active literary translators. It was facilitated by Mr. Zoran Paunovic, PhD, associate professor at the University of Novi Sad, where he teaches 19th and 20th century British literature and culture, as well as at universities of Banja Luka and Belgrade, where he teaches Shakespeare. Professor Paunovic is also very experienced in literary translation. His translation of James Joyce's "Ulysses" was awarded last year as the best translation of the year.
The workshop started with professor Paunovic giving a public lecture on life and work of James Joyce, one of the most influential and worldwide famous writers, after which he answered participants' questions. Parts of "Ulysses" were used on the second day of the workshop as a basis for a discussion on various translation dilemmas.
Participants, instructed by professor Paunovic, then moved to joint translation of "Eveline", one of the stories from "Dubliners", and used this opportunity to discuss advantages and disadvantages of collective and individual work. This collective translation of Joyce's "Eveline" is to be published in one of forthcoming editions of "Ars".

In workshop participated: Jelena Vujovic, Olivera Kusovac, Janko Andrijaševic, Uroš Zekovic, Vladimir Radenovic, Aleksandar Šupeljak, Kristijan Vujovic, Goran Ojdanic, Maja Đukanovic.

At the workshop's conclusion, each participant was given a task to translate a story written by a contemporary British author, which had previously been selected by professor Paunovic. This collection of short stories will subsequently be published in "Ars" and in a separate book and will have the title "An Anthology of Contemporary British Short Story".
